Farmhand-Ski - By Chris Bowler
Fed up with the snow? Silly question I know, but let’s take a positive from all this white stuff.
We’ve all seen the children and some adult children having fun on sledges and the like. Well, winter sports with wings seemed like fun so Steve Holland decided that in these Siberian conditions there had to be Farmhand-Ski.
After a short while fettling in the workshop he replaced the wheels with ad hoc designed skis and went flying.
The results are shown here with the prototype Farmhand still in fine fettle and performing beautifully on its improvised snowshoes! The early snow was fine and powdery and the model did sink a little, but the following fall was deep and crisp, if a little uneven but was fine to fly off. Short take offs were the norm but the touch and goes were really smooth and much faster than on wheels. With a thaw promised for the near future savour these pictures, and maybe you can be inspired to try it! It was even fun on the ground as taxiing quickly around induced the equivalent of the four-wheel slide!
The only drawback is cold fingers, but if you take a couple of friends and pass the tranny round you can warm up between turns!
The Farmhand is available as a woodpack from the Traplet range. Visit our online shop for details.
